World Environment Day – 5th June

To celebrate World Environment Day this year, we put together some easy life switch tips including some of our favourite Eco products from previous Black Boxes plus a few of our additional favourites.

World Environment Day is celebrated on the 5th June every year to encourage awareness for the protection of our environment.

Each year, a new country will host this day alongside a theme. This year World Environment Day is being hosted by Columbia in partnership with Germany with the theme “Time for Nature”.

With this year’s theme in mind, we have put together some tips and easy life switches that will help to contribute to saving our planet. Remember – every little bit counts!

  1. Reduce Plastic Wrap Usage
A single use beeswax wrap can last up to 6-12 months – you just need to wash with warm soapy water. This is not only saving the planet, but also saving your money in the long run. Plus there are so many awesome designs which will excite yours and your child’s lunchbox!
  2. Purchase reusable Coffee Cups & Water Bottles
Reusable coffee cups & water bottles use fewer resources, produce less harmful gas, protect water resources and the creatures who live underwater. Not to mention using these products are better for YOU – being BPA Free.
  3. Bag it yourself
Not only is it a great idea to bring your own reusable shopping bags, you can go a step further by purchasing reusable fresh produce bags rather than using single use plastic/paper bags for produce that will live in these bags for around 30 minutes on average before taking them home and rearranging them into a fruit bowl.
  4. Use a Shampoo Bar instead of single use plastic shampoo bottles
These are just like a bar of soap and predominantly use natural oils rather than water to hold their shape. Solid bars last up to 6x longer than bottled products because they’re packed with concentrated ingredients. So far Ethique have stopped over 3.3 million plastic bottles from being made and disposed into landfills.
  5. Use an Eco-Friendly Toothbrush
Plastic toothbrushes take over 400 years (!!!) to compose, and according to National Geographic, America alone goes through 1 billion toothbrushes a year. Humans go through about 300 toothbrushes in their lifetime. Making this small switch to Bamboo toothbrushes will have a much bigger impact on the environment than you would initially think.

  1. Also when your bees wax wrap reaches the end of its life you can put it in your compost bin.

  2. I think the will and able products are a great idea for people to support, good eco products and a business thats supports differently abled people into work.

Also the ethique products are great too I’ve been using them for a while.
